How much CO2 does a vehicle put into the air every year?

It depends on many factors including:

  • the vehicle
  • how far you drive
  • where you drive and
  • how you drive

Every litre of gasoline that your vehicle burns produces 2.4 kilograms of CO2. If you drive 20,000 km a year your vehicle produces:

  • Mid-sized SUV = 6 tonnes
  • Mid-sized sedan = 4 tonnes
  • Gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle = 2 tonnes
